Bishnupur, February 12 2023:
Residents of Laingoubi, Borayangbi, Khoijumantabi and Khullakpat under Bishnupur district have spoken out against any move to shift Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose Awasiya Vidyalaya, Laingoubi.
It may be noted that the residential school was established under Samagra Shiksha Abhiyan (SSA) using land and a building reportedly donated by a generous individual by the name of Kh Khelendro.
This sentiment was expressed by the residents during a press conference held today at the campus of Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose Awasiya Vidyalaya, Laingoubi under Kumbi Assembly Constituency.
Speaking on behalf of the protesting people, Ngangom Bina Leima, assistant secretary, Kumbi Laingoubi Meira Paibi Lup stated that the residential school was established in 2012 under SSA.
Stating that the school was officially recognized on March 22, 2014 through an order issued by the Manipur Government, she added that the school currently has 100 students between Class VI and IX and efforts are underway to add Class X from the coming year.
However, she claimed that a group of people are attempting to shift the school to Chairel Mangjil under Bishnupur district.
She alleged that the Government sanctioned funds for infrastructural development of Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose Awasiya Vidyalaya but construction work for the same was taken up at Chairel Mangjil.
Residents of the surrounding area also staged a huge protest in 2015 against this development, sheadded.
Following this, she claimed that on August 5 of last year, the Education Engineering Wing, Education Department also issued work orders of Rs 1.42 crore and Rs 76.23 lakh to two contractors for infrastructural development of the residential school.
"The bone of contention for the residents in this regard is that infrastructural work in connection with the work orders are being carried out at Chairel Mangjil instead of Kumbi Laingoubi", she lamented.
Further she rued that the current building housing the school has not received any form of infrastructural upgrade.
As such, she strongly appealed to the Education Minister to look into the matter and direct the aforementioned infrastructural development works be taken up at the residential school located at Laingoubi.
The residents also raised slogans at the school gate against the move to shift the residential school.
