CM stresses unity of Meeteis for state's progress

Being the major community, the Meeteis in Manipur suffered and sacrificed a lot in the past but the community should have unity at the highest level and continue taking the leading role in fostering unity, oneness of all communities settling in the state and accelerate the progress of Manipur, stated chief minister N Biren Singh.
Speaking as the chief guest at the inauguration of Chumthang Shannapung, a multi-sports complex consisting of football turf, swimming pool, lawn tennis and badminton court, gymnasium and park, developed at Langthabal Lep Makha Leikai, CM Biren asserted that Meeteis suffered and sacrificed more than other indigenous communities of Manipur in the past.
During the seven years devastation or Awa invasion and in the battle against the British, the Meeteis were at the forefront compared to other communities of the land.
Being the majority community, the Meeteis need to be united at the highest level and foster unity and oneness among different communities of Manipur.
When Meeteis are weak, the community would not be able to look after welfare of other communities and hence the Meeteis need to be strong and united to take along other communities to the path of development, Biren said, adding that the Meeteis have been sacrificing for the unity of Manipur and India all the time.
While stressing the need to develop more sports academies in the state, the chief minister disclosed that top class training centre will be set up at the Olympian Park.
He also said that government will provide assistance to boxing academy which is being run by boxer L Sarita while construction of a training centre in weightlifter Mirabai's locality is also under process.
The government is also trying to develop at least seven natural grass football grounds, he said, adding that Astro-turf grounds have also been developed in seven hill districts.
While reiterating that the government cannot work alone without the support of the public, the chief minister said that each and every one should shoulder their responsibilities towards ensure growth and development of the state and bring positive changes.
He also expressed the desire to see Manipur become self-reliant, neat and clean like Singapore where the public can enjoy quality life.
Though Covid-19 pandemic had hampered more than two and half years during the last term, the present BJP government has started inaugurating and dedicating projects taken up during the previous term.
He said the government has also managed to develop Manipur Olympian Park, Polo Statue at Ibudhou Marjing Complex, Sangai Ethnic Park with the support of the people.
Further stating that the Sangai Ethnic Park at Moirang Khunou is being developed to host the G-20 events, the chief minister said that around 150 participants including 50 foreign delegates will be coming to the state.
The state will host a business session as part of the G-20 summit on February 17 which would be highly beneficial for the state, he added.
Further speaking on the ills of deforestation and the need to replenish the forests, the chief minister said that the government has already announced monetary award for those who can identify anyone who ignite wild fires.
N Biren Singh also spoke strongly on the impact of adulterated liquor, narcotic drugs and corruption and the need to eradicate these malaises from the society.
He also highlighted the benefits of various schemes like the Chief Minister Hakshelgi Tengbang, Go to Hills, etc.
The inaugural function was also attended by Manipur Planning Authority deputy chairman S Rajen Singh, Tourism Corporation of Manipur Ltd chairperson Karam Shyam, Manipur Electronics Development Corporation chairperson Sapam Kunjakeswar Singh, Wangkhei MLA Th Arunkumar, Naoriya Pakhanglakpa MLA S Kebi Devi, Saikul MLA Kimneo Hangshing, DGP P Doungel, boxer L Sarita, footballer Bembem and Chumthang Shanhapung managing director Soraisham Govind among others.
