Anusuiya Uikey appointed Governor of Manipur

The President of India has appointed Chhattisgarh Governor Anusuiya Uikey as the 18th Governor of Manipur, and Manipur Governor La Ganesan as the Governor of Nagaland.
Anusuiya Uikey was appointed Governor of Chhattisgarh on July 16, 2019 .
Congratulating her on her appointment as the Governor of Manipur, chief minister N Biren posted on his social media accounts, "I am confident that the people of Manipur will see progress and growth under your leadership" .
He also conveyed best wishes to La Ganesan on his new post as Governor of Nagaland.
Anusuiya Uikey was elected to Madhya Pradesh Legislative Assembly from Damua in the 1985 Madhya Pradesh Legislative Assembly election as a member of Indian National Congress.
She became minister for women and child development in the Arjun Singh cabinet.
By 1998, she had crossed over to BJP and was its losing candidate in the 1998 Vidhan Sabha election from Damua.
She became a member of Rajya Sabha from Madhya Pradesh in 2006 .
President Droupadi Murmu also appointed new governors in four other northeast states.
In Assam, Gulab Chand Kataria has been appointed as the new governor.
Senior BJP leader Gulab Chand Kataria is currently serving as the leader of opposition in Rajasthan.
On the other hand, Lt Gen KT Parnaik (retd) has been appointed as the new governor of Arunachal Pradesh.
Lt Gen Parnaik (retd) had, earlier, served as the commander of the Indian Army's presti gious Northern Command.
The present governor of Arunachal Pradesh - Brig B D Mishra (Retd) has been transferred to Ladakh as governor of the union territory.
Meanwhile, BJP leader Lakshman Acharya has been appointed governor of Sikkim, a Rastrapati Bhawan spokesperson said.
Acharya will replace Ganga Prasad as the governor of Sikkim.
Moreover, Bihar governor Phagu Chauhan has been appointed as the new Meghalaya governor.
"The above appointments will take effect from the dates they assume charge of their respective offices," an official communication from the President's office stated said.
