Dingo calls for quality fish products, production system

Fisheries minister Heikham Dingo Singh said that quality fish, fish products and production system are prerequisite to successful fishery enterprise.
Speaking as chief Guest of the opening ceremony of a four-day international conference on "Responsible Aquaculture and Sustainable Fisheries Interact (RASHI)" organised by College of Fisheries, Tripura in Agartala on Tuesday on the occasion of silver jubilee celebration of the college, minister Dingo stressed on the urgent need to bridge the gap between production and demand through problem and need based research for the needy farmers of the North East Region.
He also commended the role of the College of Fisheries, Lembucherra under the Central Agricultural University, Imphal for its relentless efforts in scientific research in fisheries, academic excellence and achievements in fisheries science during the past 25 years.
Prior to opening of the international conference, Dingo along with Tripura fisheries minister Prem Kumar Reang and MLA of Bamutia assembly constituency Krishnadhan Das, CAU, Imphal vice-chancellor Dr Anupam Mishra and NFDB Hyderabad chief executive Dr C Suvarna inaugurated a Fish Festival cum showcasing of technology at the premises of College of Fisheries and interacted with the participants who are mostly from fisheries research institutes, farmers and stake holders.
Later in the afternoon, he also interacted with Manipuri students pursuing fisheries science and teachers engaged in the College of Fisheries and assured of all possible assistance for the development of fisheries sector in Manipur.
Meanwhile, Salam Rohendro Singh, a progressive fish farmer of Manipur was awarded Haricharan Das Best Progressive Fish Farmer Award, 2022 during an international conference on "Responsible Aquaculture and Sustainable Fisheries Interact (RASHI)" in recognition of his contribution and commendable achievements in developing fisheries and aquaculture in Manipur.
The event was jointly organised by College of Fisheries, Tripura; College of Fisheries, Lembucherra Alumni Association (COFLA), and North East Society for Fisheries and Aquaculture, India in Agartala on Tuesday.
The award carries cash prize of Rs 10,000, citation and trophy.
Rohendro, who is from Laphupat Tera Mayai Leikai under Imphal West district, has a water spread area of 5 hectares for culturing various commercially important and indigenous fish species like IMCs, ExoticCarps, Osteobrama belangiri, Bangana dero, Lebo gonius and wallago attu (sareng).
With his experience of more than 20 years, he is able to market 30 millions of spawn and 42 tonnes of table size fish within the state for past three years.
Earlier, he had also won the prize for the best farmer for highest fish production during annual fish fair cum fish crop competition organised by the Fishery Department, Manipur in 2021 and Progressive Farmer Award for the year 2021-22 conferred by ICAR; Directorate of Coldwater Fisheries Research, Bhimtal, Nainital, Uttarakhand in collaboration with Coldwater Fisheries Society of India in July this year.
