Thoubal, December 13 2022:
Taking serious note of the slow progress of the construction of retaining wall along Thoubal River bank in front of Thoubal Ningthou Tangjeng Ningthou Ibudhou Ibendhou Lai Haraofam in Wangkhem assembly constituency, Lai Committee has appealed to local MLA and Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee member MLA Keisham Meghachandra to assess the condition of the work.
Interacting with the media during an inspection visit at the construction site, Lai Committee member Y Rishikanta said that the local people gave cooperation to the MLA when he brought the project through water resources department about four or five months back.
Initially, they believed that the project will be completed before the annual Lai Haraoba festival, but they are no longer hopeful of the target considering tardy implementation of the project.
The work has not only been stopped but construction materials are also being removed from the site, he said, while drawing attention of the MLA.
Local resident and BJP Thoubal unit president Yumnam Kumarjit said that half of the village road was dug up for construction of the retaining wall.
However, the project is far from completion and as a result,..the remaining half of the village road has started to cave in thereby posing danger to the people.
Appreciating the MLA's initiative in inspecting road projects in far flung areas of the state, he urged the MLA to inspect the work in his own constituency too.
He urged the MLA to exert pressure on the department and contractor concerned for early completion of the project in the larger interest of the public.
