Oja Sanajaoba remembered on his 13th death anniversary

The 13th death anniversary of Professor Naorem Sanajaoba, popularly known as Oja Sanajaoba, was observed at Oja Sanajaoba Memorial Complex, Lairikyengbam Leikai on Tuesday while at NRC hall, Canchipur, a debating competition was organised in remembrance of the professor.
Organised by Oja Sanajaoba Memorial Trust, the Lairikyengbam Leikai event was marked by offering of floral tributes to the late scholar.
Speaking as the chief guest, Manipur University former AVRC director Dr Arambam Lokendro opined that it is time for the present and upcoming generation to read books and remember the works of the farsighted scholar in view of the chaotic situation besieging the society and different elements trying to distort and destroy the history of Manipur.
He also pointed out the need for the political class of Manipur and those at the helm of power to reminisce the life and works of Oja Sanajaoba.
"We need to re-read the writings of Oja Sanajaoba, review and analyse them to see the difference in the socio-political economy he had emphasised and the changing socio-political economy of the state", he said.
Earlier delivering the keynote address, OSMT managing trustee S Bhubon said that Oja Sanajaoba contributed immensely in the held of academics.
He had not only written over 30 books, but also brought out over 300 keynotes and tried his best to build a cordial relationship between the people of the hills and the valley.
Presided over by OSMT trustee retired Prof Dr Ibo, the function was also attended by Zeliangrong Art and Culture Organisation (AZACO), Manipur president Poudongai Kamson; Kuki Inpi Manipur president Ch Ajang Khongsai; GP Women's College political science department head Khullakpam Abdul Hakim Shah; and Poirei Leimarol Apunba Meira Paibi Lup vice president S Memcha as guests of honour.
Meanwhile, in connection with the 13th death anniversary of professor Naorem Sanajaoba, National Research Centre (NRC), Manipur in coordination with Manipuri Students' Federation MSF) organised a debating competition on the topic 'Yelhoumisingna Shuba Nombagee Lichat Amuk Hanna Hingathanba Matamda Manipur Da Mitop Miyan Thomjillakpadagee Thingba Ngamgani' at NRC hall, Canchipur, on Tuesday.
According to NRC president Thongam Ajit, the competition was held to uphold the thoughts and ideals of professor Sanajaoba, who predicted the future of Manipuri society in written form.
The topic for the competition was rightly chosen in view of changing demography of Manipur wherein outsiders have threatened to engulf indigenous people.
The topic not only expects to highlight the present demography of Manipur in the right perspective but also give impact to future generation, he said.
Altogether 29 competitors took part in the debating competition with TOM TV editor A Mubi as speaker.
Th Sanathoi of Hindu College bagged the first position of the competition while Mansi Sagolsem of TG Higher Secondary School secured the second position.
