Impacts of drug abuse highlighted

A one day awareness programme on "Environment and Tribal people & Impact of Drug abuse" was held today at Manipur University Centenary Hall today.
The awareness programme was organised by Manipur State Commission for the Scheduled Tribes (MSCST) in association with Manipur University Tribal students' Union (MUTSU) .
The programme was graced by Manipur University Vice-Chancellor Professor N Lokendra Singh, Manipur State Commission for the Scheduled Tribes Chairperson, Thuigai Mathieu Rongmei and former member of Manipur State Commission for Women, Ranjita Golmei as the presidium members.
Speaking at the programme, Thuigai Mathieu Rongmei appealed to all to pledge support to the War on Drugs campaign led by Chief Minister N Biren Singh and make sincere efforts to save the people of the State from drugs and other intoxicants.

He also called for collective efforts to strive for a developed Manipur.
With regards to the objectives of the awareness programme, he said that it has been organised to sensitize the masses about the adverse impacts of rampant use of drugs.
While expressing concern on 'the alleged involvement of student bodies in many activities not connected with students' he appealed to student bodies in the State to stay away from such activities and focus on welfare activities of students who are the future pillars of the society.
The other dignitaries of the programme while addressing the gathering expressed serious concern over the extensive use of drugs and intoxicants especially among the young students and youths and its harmful impacts towards the society.
Later an interaction programme among the resource persons and students was also held.
