Sawombung road block withdrawn after assurance

In continuation of the protests demanding immediate repairing of the road stretch from Sawombung Gate to Sagolmang passing through Pourabi and Keibi, members of Sawombung Students' Club, Meira Paibi and the locals blocked the road on Tuesday morning.
A team of Lamlai police station arrived at the scene and took up measures to prevent any unwanted incidents from happening.
Speaking to media persons, one of the protesting Meira Paibi members recounted that after numerous agitations were staged over the years demanding the repair of the road, the works were finally taken up recently.
However, after few days, the repair works stopped.
As such, the people once again made it clear to the authorities concerned through the media on Monday to repair the road at the earliest, failing which protest would be staged.
Since no action was taken up, the aggrieved people decided to block the road, she conveyed.
Meanwhile, Sawombung Students' Club issued a press release on Tuesday, informing that the protest has been withdrawn after assurances were given by the government.
As per the release, after the road was blocked, an AE from the PWD came to the spot and talked with the representatives of Sawombung Students' Club, Meira Paibi and the local village authority on behalf of the government.
The AE assured that the repair work of the stretch of road from Sawombung to FCI godown will commence from December 14.The Club then informed that that the protests were withdrawn but will resume if the assurances given by the PWD were not put into action.
