Landslide totally cuts off Oklong village

Senapati, May 19 2022:
PMGSY road leading to Oklong village and its neighbouring villages has been totally cut off due to landslide and mudslide which occurred a couple of days ago.
This was reported by chairmen of different villages while drawing the attention of the authority concerned as the area has been battered by incessant rain for more than a week now.
It is reported that the road from Senapati to Oklong, Oklong to Makuilongdi, Oklong to Kanem, Oklong to Rajaimei, Oklong to Kangjang and Oklong-Chakha which were all constructed under PMGSY in recent years have been totally cut-off due to the landslides.
The villagers reported that debris fallen from the road above were all cleared by the villagers by hiring excavator (JCBs).
However, sunken portion and major landslide that occurred along a 4-8 km stretch of Senapati-Oklong road and 8-10km along Senapati-Oklong road via Makuilongdi are now beyond repair, adding that there is no alternative route leading to the village.
Villagers also complained that they are left without electricity for more than a week and said that they even had to hire electricians for repairing.
There is also report of major landslides between Oklong and Rajaimei, and between Kangjang and Chakha.
Chairmen association of the area also asked the authority concerned for help.
Some portions are reported to have blocked by big boulders between Kangjang and Chakha villages.
In view of the difficulties faced by the people, various village leaders of the area have drawn the attention of the authority concerned to help clear the road.
