Kangpokpi joins War on Drugs

Imphal, May 19 2022:
"From today, let us take a new step towards building a drug-free new Manipur and focus mainly on bringing development", Chief Minister N Biren Singh said today while welcoming civil society organisations, village chiefs and other leaders of different communities from Kangpokpi district who declared their support to the Government's War on Drugs campaign.
Addressing media persons in this regard at the Darbar Hall of the Chief Minister's Secretariat this evening, the Chief Minister said that the Government is fully focused on bringing development and delivering welfare benefits to the public.
"Today with Kangpokpi joining the campaign, I firmly believe that the War on Drugs campaign will be successful", the Chief Minister expressed.
It may be mentioned that CSOs, village chiefs, and leaders of various districts and areas including Senapati, Ukhrul, Chandel, Tamenglong, Noney, Tengnoupal and Saikul AC have already declared their support to the campaign.
Expressing his gratitude to the public for all the support, the Chief Minister said that the movement has gained momentum through support from the general public.
"What we are doing today is not for ourselves, but for our future generations", he added.
Ration shops will be opened in the interior parts of the hills to ensure that foodgrains are available to the public, the Chief Minister said asserting that the Government is fully focused on bringing development and delivering welfare benefits to the general public.
Social Welfare and Cooperation Minister Nemcha Kipgen read out the proceedings of an emergency meeting held by several CSOs on May 18 .
During the meeting, it was unanimously resolved to ban illegal cultivation of poppy plants with immediate effect within the administrative jurisdiction of Kangpokpi district and declare it a drug-free zone in support of Chief Minister N Biren's initiative on the War on Drugs.
Minister of Tribal Affairs and Hills Letpao Haokip, leaders of Sadar Hill Chiefs Association, Kuki Students' Organisation, women organisations, Naga organisations based in Kangpokpi and Gorkha organisations attended the press briefing.
Saitu AC MLA Haokholet Kipgen read out a pledge taken by the CSOs to support the War on Drugs campaign.
