Imphal, November 24 2022:
Scheduled Tribe Demand Committee (STDCM), as part of its ongoing movement for recognition of Meetei-Meitei as ST community, called on Wabagai MLA Usham Deben and submitted a memorandum.
A team of STDCM comprising representatives of different constituent units went to the MLA's residence at Canchipur on Thursday afternoon and submitted the memorandum.
During the interaction, the MIA extended his full support to the demand and said that no other communities in the state should raise objection to the legitimate demand of Meetei community for ensuring constitutional safeguard for their existence in their own land.
He said that Meetei, despite being the dominant indigenous community of the state, is experiencing downfall in many aspects.
The community is today at the threshold of life or death as they are losing their grounds in their own land.
Considering the gravity of the situation, the demand and the movement being spearheaded by STDCM is legitimate and he will provide full support to the movement, the MLA assured, while adding that he will bring up the matter to the chief minister.
