A memorandum of understanding (MoU) for technical partnership and collaboration in capacity building programmes in Education subject for 4 years UG courses in the colleges of Manipur was signed between the Directorate of University and Higher Education and the State Council of Educational Research and Training (SCERT).
The MoU was signed at Manipur College today by University and Higher Education Director Dr Rangitabali Waikhom and SCERT Joint Director Jim Thingujam.
Officials of SCERT, Principals and teachers of 33 colleges including Imphal College Principal Dr N Priyobarta and University & Higher Education Additional Director P Shantikumar were also present when the MoU was signed.
Dr Rangitabali Waikhom said that the MoU signed today was one of the many activities undertaken by the Directorate of University and Higher Education after the National Education Policy 2020 had been implemented.
She said that the directorate has been working together with NIELIT on capacity building of college teachers in the field of Information and Communication Technology (ICT).
Noting that the public particularly college Principals and teachers have been asking the preparedness of the Government and the Directorate of University & Higher Education regarding the NEP, Dr Rangitabali said that the Directorate has been already facing several problems and wants but the NEP is not something that can be delayed.
"As such, all of us must work together to tackle the problems", she said.
Saying that similar capacity building programmes for other subjects can also be arranged, she appealed to teachers to inform the Directorate through their Principals if they have problems regarding other subjects.
SCERT Joint Director Jim Thingujam said that the main works of SCERT are preparation of syllabi, curricula and modules for elementary level (Classes I to VIII), publication of textbooks, research and training teachers.
"We were taken by surprise when the matter of capacity building of college teachers was introduced to us but we accepted the responsibility after knowing that it was aimed at enhancing skill", Jim said.
Saying that the SCERT has prepared a tentative programme of a training/workshop on rhymes and toy making for college teachers and it would start next Monday, he appealed to college teachers to register for the workshop tomorrow itself.
