Importance of TV dissected on World Television Day

Dhanamanjuri Community College, DDU-Kaushal Kendra and DM College of Science, DM University jointly organised the observance of World Television Day at the central hall of DM College of Science, here, on Thursday.
DM University vice-chancellor professor N Rajmuhon, DM College of Science principal Dr M Bhubaneshwari and DM Community College, DDU-Kaushal Kendra director Dr L Hemchandra attended the event as chief guest, president and guest of honour respectively.
Speaking on the occasion, professor N Rajmuhon recalled how the United Nations adopted World Television Day on November 21 underscoring the importance of television with the objective to make people aware of the impact and usefulness of television and started the observance from 1996 onwards.
After Scottish engineer John Baird invented the first television, the appliance became an important medium for media and communication system, the vice chancellor said, adding that the observance shows the significance of TV as tool of globalisation and communication in the contemporary world.
TV provides an opportunity for cultural exchange, brotherhood, understanding and dissecting different cultures across the world, and share ideas.
It plays major role in the social, economic, political and geographical functioning.
Moreover, TV plays an important role in education sector, Prof Rajmuhon said.
He then explained that TV is an important medium to witness national and international sports events as well as access information on contemporary issues like global warming, climate change among others, further influencing the young minds to make their career in sports or to work for social causes.
Explaining the reason for organising the observance, the VC said that the mass media and communication syllabus in B Voc course offered by DM Community College is an interesting topic, which the students are enthusiastic of.
The observance was organised with the objective to divert the young minds from the current issues and take them to a positive path of life, he maintained and proposed the idea of organising the observance in colleges and schools in the form of debating competition and quiz competition.
Manipur University, department of mass communication Head-in-charge Dr Rk Lilapati and Impact TV News editor Raj Nongthombam spoke as resource persons on the occasion.
Film actors Bala Hijam, RK Somorendro (Kaiku), Gokul Athokpam, Hamom Sad ananda, G Bony Sharma, Mukabala, RK Amarjeet and Mister International-2022 runner-up Kshetrimayum Lukanand also attended the celebration.
Manipur University, department of mass communication Head-in-charge Dr Rk Lilapati elaborated on the history of television as Raj Nongthombam elaborated on the importance of television and its impact on youth.
The event was attended by students, all the heads of departments of Dhanamanjuri University, teachers and non-teaching staff of DM Community College.
