Thoubal, November 24 2022:
Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee president and Wangkhem AC MLA K Meghachandra, DC Thoubal, SP Thoubal and officials of NHIDCL carried out an inspection of the area in and around Babu Bazar accompanied by the local residents today.
It may be noted that the inspection was carried out in connection with the many increasing reports of accidents which occurred as a result of the road expansion of NH 102 (part of Trans Asian Highway) from Lilong to Wangjing under Thoubal district and the narrow median turning lane in the area.
As a part of the inspection, vendors plying their wares atop the drains at the highway close to Babu Bazar were dismantled.
Speaking by the sideline of the inspection visit, MLA Meghachandra stated that in order to avoid any future road mishaps it was decided to expand the median turning lane in Babu Bazar.
In collaboration with the Electricity Department, a flood light will also be installed in Babu Bazar area, he assured.
Thoubal DC also called for the people's support in expansion of the median lane.
It may be noted that earlier in the day, residents of Khangabok, auto rickshaw and magic owners/drivers along with members of local clubs staged a protest in front of Khangabok High School in this connection by blocking the National Highway.
However, the protestors came to an understanding with DC Thoubal and officials of NHIDCL who agreed to expand the median turning lane.
