World Television Day observed

World Television Day was observed today at DM College of Science Central Hall jointly organised by Dhanamanjuri Community College/DDU - Kaushal Kendra and DM College of Science.
Speaking at the occasion, Dhanamanjuri University Vice-Chancellor, Professor N Rajmuhon Singh stated that the United Nations declared 21 November as World Television Day commemorating the date on which the first World Television Forum was held in 1996.Stating that the invention of television has brought in a revolution in the communication system and mass media, he expressed that the observation of World Television Day is an important event.
Enumerating the numerous benefits of television, he maintained that television as a mass media medium has tremendously helped in bringing positive changes in socio-economic, political and geographical functioning.
Television has also been playing a significant role in the education sector thereby raising mass awareness in numerous fields, he added.
In context with the Indian scenario, he stated that through the telecast of many mythological stories, one gets to know the indepth meaning of these mythological events.
He further maintained that watching television together by family members as a mode of recreation also helps in building unity amongst all.
He continued that watching programmes or movies of different languages and culture instills interest among young children in particular to yearn for more.
Such interest will lead in the enhancement of knowledge apart from the restricted school curriculum, he said.
Addressing the programme, Head of Department of Zoology, Dhanamanjuri University, Dr L Hemchandra maintained that television provides a medium of interaction with personalities of different fields of knowledge.
Principal DM College of Science & Dean of School of Sciences DM University , Dr M Bhubaneshwari Devi; Impact TV Editor Raj Nongthombam and Assistant Professor, Head in-charge, Department of Mass Communication, MU, Dr RK Lilapati Devi also attended the programme.
Many renowned personalities of Manipuri Cinema were also honoured with gifts during the programme.
