Goods worth Rs 50 lakh gutted in fire at vehicle workshop

A massive fire that sent rattles to many residents of Churachandpur's Hmuia Veng early today at about 1.30 completely gutted a vehicle workshop in the locality.
At least 2 cars and two diesel autos along with spare parts and cash worth several lakhs are suspected to have been gutted in the fire.
It took hours for the firefighters and the locals to contain the flames without spreading it to the adjoining houses.
The exact cause of the fire is still unclear while the true worth of gutted goods too is pegged to be about Rs 50 lakh.
The workshop owner Lianlemsang said his parents Thangkhansut and Ginngaihniang were sleeping inside a room within the workshop when it caught fire.
People residing in the vicinity were the first to become aware of the fire.
They were the ones who alerted them about the fire which sources said appears to have originated from a bamboo hut located on the western flank.
He also claimed that his mother Ginngaihniang suffered burnt injuries on her back while trying to escape from the blazing fire.
Lianlemsang had started the vehicle workshop about 5 years back.
A cash of about Rs 3.7 lakh that are kept by his parents have as well been completely charred by the fire he said.
A Maruti Wagon-R and Maruti-800 both waiting repairs, 2 diesel autos and several mechanical tools including a gas-welding machine, spraying machine and many auto parts have been gutted beyond repairs.
