Ukhrul, August 01 2022:
In a renewed move to streamline the process of electoral enrolment, the District Election Office (DEO), Ukhrul & Kamjong, on Monday launched a special campaign to link Aadhaar cards with the voters' identity cards for Ukhrul assembly constituency and Chingai AC in Ukhrul district and Phungyar AC in Kamjong district.
Speaking during the launch function held at DC conference hall, deputy commissioner Ukhrul and DEO Krishna Kumar said that the Election Commission of India (ECI) has recently notified for collection of electors' Aadhaar cards to help authenticate and prevent duplicate entries in the electoral rolls.
He informed that the process is voluntary and those willing to link Aadhaar card with the voter ID cards can approach the DEO or their electoral roll officer.
The process can also be done online on links namely nsvp.in and voterportal.eci.gov.in with effect from August 1 .
Additional DC Ukhrul and electoral registration officer (ERO) Ukhrul AC Chunglehmang Kipgen also mentioned that the rationale behind the drive is to collect Aadhaar from all the electors and link them with the voters identity cards as some people have provided their Aadhaar details while others have not done so.
ECI is stressing on collection of Aadhaar from every elector to do away duplicity in the electoral rolls.
Therefore, collection of Aadhaar cards was necessitated, he stated.
He also conveyed the possibility of electors being enrolled in more than one electoral roll list and said it is not correct.
"So, to do away with duplicity ECI has taken this bold step," he said.
Chunglenmang continued that block level officers (BLOs) will collect the original Aadhaar cards from all the electors of Kamjong and Ukhrul districts and copy the front and back side of the Aadhaar card and digitise it through Garuda mobile application which is used by all the BLOs for digitising the information of the electors.
He stated that there are four forms namely form 6, 7, 8 and 8A.These forms are further segregated.
Form No 6 is specifically designed for new/ fresh enrolment meaning for people who have attained the age of 18 .
When the BLOs go for Aadhaar cards collection they will directly go to Form 6 B and enter the electors Aadhaar number.
This form was introduced this year for collecting Aadhaar number of existing electors to authenticate the entries in the electoral rolls, he added.
The programme was also attended by SDO Ukhrul Suranjoy Singh, SDO LM block Lalthanzam and representatives from BJP, Congress and NPF parties, among others.
