CID office gutted

A fire that broke out at around 2.30 am today gutted the CID office in Babupara destroying various documents, computers, guns and explosives.
However, no casualties were reported.
Staff of CID who were on duty reported the fire immediately to the Manipur Fire Service.
In addition to Fire Tenders from Imphal more fire engines and manpower from Thoubal, Yairipok, Mayang Imphal and Bishnupur were rushed to the site.
As per an official of Manipur Fire Service, all the fire engines and personnel took more than 3 hours to douse the fire completely.
The exact cause of the fire is yet to be ascertained at the time of filing this report, but Imphal police station has registered a case and started an investigation to ascertain the cause of the fire.
High ranking officials of Manipur police including DGP P Doungel visited the site along with a team of forensic experts to take stock of the incident.
As various items including computers, guns, explosives and documents were completely destroyed by the fire and pending official findings of the Imphal police investigating the incident, the loss due to the fire is yet to be ascertained, added an official from the Manipur Fire Service.
