Imphal, August 01 2022:
Taking pot shots at the BJP, MPCC vice president Hareswar Goshwami today said that the term often used by the BJP in the State that 'Manipur is corruption free' simply means that corruption is being freely pursued in the State.
Speaking to the media at the conference hall of Congress Bhavan today, Hareswar Goshwami said that corruption continues to thrive in the State despite the BJP's claim of a 'corruption free Manipur'.
Manipur has 100 percent pending cases related to corruption as per Innovation of India Index (III) published by NITI Ayog in 2021 which clearly proves that claims made by BJP leaders in the State including the Chief Minister that 'Manipur is corruption free' is completely unfounded, he added.
He further said that no action has been taken up against one Additional Chief Engineer in-charge of Rural Engineering Department who was caught with Rs 60 lakh in corruption charge on April 13 this year.
Regarding the anti-corruption policy of the Government which states that both the person who offers bribes and those who accept bribes will be prosecuted, Hareswar Goswami questioned if it is the case, then who will come forth to report cases of corruption.
Adding that a crackdown on those selling alcohol is laudable, Hareswar Goswami however said due process of law should be followed instead of flashing their pictures on media before taking up legal proceedings.
Such publicity stunts are staged to eyewash the public, he alleged.
