Imphal, August 01 2022:
All the Members of the Manipur Legislative Assembly today applauded the achievements of weightlifters Saikhom Mirabai and Sorokhaibam Bindyarani who have won a gold medal and a silver medal in their respective weight categories in the Commonwealth Games being held at Birmingham, England.
N Biren, the leader of the House, asserted that all the Members of the House ought to congratulate the two weightlifters from the tiny State who won a gold medal and a silver medal in the Commonwealth Games 2022.Saikhom Mirabai won gold in the 49 Kg category while Sorokhaibam Bindyarani bagged silver in the 55 Kg category.
During zero hour in the State Assembly today, the Chief Minister prayed that the two weightlifters may achieve greater success in the coming years.
Biren also conveyed his best wishes to the medal winners of the ongoing Commonwealth Games and also all participants from the State.
Informing the House that the old CID office was ravaged by fire at around 2.30 am today and the office has been destroyed by almost 75 per cent, the Chief Minister said that the raging fire even spread to the CRPF barrack but it was saved due to timely intervention by the Fire Brigade.
Even though it is suspected that the inferno originated from electric short circuit, an FIR has been registered to find out the exact cause of the fire.
Large volumes of records of crime branch, technical branch, security and cyber crime have been destroyed by the inferno.
Except for some photographs of culprits, the records including finger prints can be retrieved as they were already digitised, Biren said.
Citing a report that one patient who was being taken to Imphal from Moreh sub-divisional hospital in an ambulance died on the way as he was delayed by Assam Rifles at their Khudengthabi check-post, Kh Joykisan sought attention of the matter.
The MLA also recalled that a serious issue rocked the State some years back when AR personnel checked a lady police officer physically.
Being a border area, checking and frisking of commuters on the highway is understandable but detaining a critical patient is highly shocking, decried the MLA before seeking immediate attention of the Chief Minister.
Pointing out that 56 people were found dead while five are still missing following the tragic landslide which struck Marangching, K Ranjit said that the same area was shaken by earthquake two times earlier.
A report furnished by Meteorology Department says that crevices have surfaced in the same area which means another tragedy can strike the area any time.
As such, it would be in the fitness of things for the Government to give a statement on the floor of the House before the ongoing session is over, Ranjit asserted.
He further suggested that the matter may be raised as a motion so that all the Members can discuss it threadbare and explore ways and means to avoid such tragic incidents in future.
