Imphal, August 01 2022:
In connection with the death of a patient travelling from Moreh to Imphal whose medical treatment was delayed due to the checking activities of 20 Assam Rifles at Khu-dengthabi on July 30, Thangmeiband AC MLA Kh Joykisan has urged the state government to look into the security measures taken up by the security forces.
Drawing the attention of the House on the matter during the Zero hour of the ongoing session of the Manipur Legislative Assembly on Monday, Joykisan stated that there is no problem with security forces carrying out checking operations to check for illegal drugs and arms, considering the proximity to the border area.
However, vehicles transporting medical emergency cases are different from normal vehicles.
All para-military forces are educated and should be able to differentiate between the two.
Thus, he called for taking serious note of this matter.
Further stating that security forces can check the convoy of MLAs while travelling along the route if there is any suspicion, Joykisan said that the patient's life could have been saved if they were able to reach the hospital in time.
As such, it is wrong to harass and detain vehicles carrying medical emergencies.
The security forces could have prioritized the vehicle and let it go after carrying out necessary security formalities, he remarked, while urging the government to prevent a repeat of similar incident in the future.
