Awareness on Livestock Insurance held

A one-day awareness programme on 'Livestock Insurance Scheme' organized by the District Veterinary office, Senapati and sponsored by 'The Manipur Livestock Development Board', Sanjenthong was carried out today at the DRDA Conference hall here.
The awareness programme was inaugurated by M.L Markson, President, NPO as the Chief Guest and Kamal Kumar Das, General Secretary, Taphou area Multi-Agricultural and Livestock farmers' Society, as the Presiding President of the function in the presence of Dr..HShantikumar Singh, Joint Director, D.V.O Senapati and other Doctors of the Veterinary Department.
About 70 farmers attended the awareness programme, where Th.Phunindro Singh, Development Officer, Oriental Insurance Company Limited, Imphal, Dr.O Lokendro Singh, Vety.
Officer, Manipur, Livestock Development Board, were the resource persons who enlightened the farmers with the need and importance of Insuring livestock of farmers, through the financial assistance from the Government of India.
"In this Livestock insurance, the farmers pay just a meager premium and the Government of India equally contributes to the farmers account.
When in any unfavorable situation which leads to the death of domestic animals that contribute much to the economy of the farmers can be reimbursed through the scheme which is already implemented since 2006 in Manipur." pointed out the Development Officer of the Insurance Company.
Speaking on the occasion as the Chief Guest, ML Markson, said that the mindset of the people of the district is changing for good.
"Some years back, people are apprehensive and reluctant to join training programmes and awareness camps but knowing the benefit of the training from professionals, people have started to participate in programmes", he stated.
"It is time to change the trend", said Kamal Kumar Das, the presiding president of the function while citing examples of how the insurance scheme should have helped the poor farmers that some months back three cows died and incurred huge lost the poor farmers.
"If the insurance was there it would have mitigated the plight of the farmer", he regretted.
