Reacting to the news report published in this Daily on November 15 under the caption 'members of PNU, PTM, PNM desecrate Theiva church', the Poumai Naga Union (PNU) has made a clarification that the report is baseless.
In a clarification signed by its Publicity and Information Secretary Pou Paul, the Poumai Naga Union said such false reports may lead to confusion in the mind of the people, and may also divert the good mission of the Poumai Naga Union.
On November 9 last, over 300 delegates of Poumai Naga Students' Union , Poumai Naga Women Union, Poumai Naga Baptist Association, Poumai Naga Catholic Union, chief/chairman/secy of more than 70 villages, social leaders and student activists attended PNU's General Assembly and conducted a common worship service during our visit to Thiwa village, said the release.
It added that Thiwa village, an undisputed Poumai village falls under 47-Karong A/C under Purul Block, Senapati district.
The name "THEIVA", inscribed on the nameplate above the Church entrance and on the monoliths stones was erased as it is a non-existent entity.
Such terminology doesn't exist in the official records and not found in the history of Poumai Naga, the release claimed.
It further said that the purpose of their visit to Thiwa village was to strengthen bond of brotherhood and unity among the Poumai villagers.
The two existing Baptist Churches in rift due to internal misunderstanding have been merged into one Church called Thiwa Baptist Church under one administration in aspiration of unity among the Poumai community, it added.
Saying that Poumai Naga Union shall remain firm on its resolutions passed in the General Assembly held on the 8th Nov at Thiwa village, it affirmed to strongly withstand any intervention and disturbance of external forces in the internal affairs of Poumai community.
