It was some enthusiastic individuals who set up Loktak Lake Tourism Development Society and introduced boat tours on Loktak Lake a few years back without any assistance from the Government.
The society has now more than 20 boats to take tourists to different parts of Loktak Lake and back.
The boats are of different sizes.
While a few can carry 20 passengers at a time, others have four or six seats.
One can also enjoy one's meal in the middle of the lake.
One only needs to book his/her meal before leaving the shore, said some members of the Loktak Lake Tourism Development Society.
Boat fare for one trip is Rs 20 but one has to pay only Rs 200 if they wish to hire a boat having the capacity of 20 passengers.
Tourists can now take a much closer look at the variety of migratory birds which flock the lake every winter season.
Boats which would be fitted with beds and can be hired for the whole day are also being developed, they said.
Healthcare and Industries Managing Director Dr Th Dhaballi who is also the president of Manipur Tourism Forum hailed the new initiative of introducing boat tours at Loktak Lake.
He also promised certain landmark changes in the manner in which Classic Hotel runs and manages Sendra Tourist Home in the next couple of months.
