Imphal, November 18 2014:
The JAC Against the Proposed Imphal Ring Road has resolved to file a petition at the High Court of Manipur and the Supreme Court if necessary in case there is no response to the memorandum submitted to the Chief Minister on November 11 by November 26 .
A decision to this end was adopted at a public meeting held at Tarung Community Hall under the aegis of the JAC Against the Proposed Imphal Ring Road.
The JAC Against the Proposed Imphal Ring Road is a common platform of the JACs formed by the people of Canchipur, Langthabal, Langjing and others who are likely to be displaced by the proposed ring road.
According to the JACs, the proposed ring road would wipe out 700 to 800 structures including residential houses and buildings.
The memorandum submitted to the Chief Minister on November 11 pleaded that the alignment of the ring road be diverted towards paddy fields and Government khaslands.
The public meeting attended by leaders of different communities also agreed to form a coordinating committee of the JACs.
The meeting also resolved to apprise the matter to the Prime Minister's office, the Governor of Manipur and the Asian Development Bank.
Majority of the speakers who addressed the meeting presided by former Minister Jangamlung opined that displacement of citizens and destruction of their properties in the name of development is not advisable.
Observing that the proposed greater Imphal ring road would entail large scale destruction, they demanded re-adjustment of the existing alignment.
"We don't want ADB to turn away from Manipur because of the objection but we are determined to see that the Government does its planning meticulously and execute the same in the most transparent manner," they asserted.
