Senapati Hospital gets new Operation Theatre (OT)

The first Operation Theatre (OT) of Senapati District was inaugurated , by Rural Development & Panchayati Raj Minister Francis Ngajokpa at Senapati District Hospital here today.
During the inauguration of the much awaited Operation Theatre, Health Services & NRHM Director Dr.Okram Ibomcha, Deputy Commissioner of the district Jacintha Lazarus and CMO Dr.Loli Mao were also present.
On the first day of achieving the milestone of commissioning an OT in the new 50 bedded Hospital, the Director of Health Services arranged for conducting the first surgical treatment on a pregnant woman who successfully delivered a baby boy.
The proud parents were identified as Joseph and Monica of Karong.
Members of civil organisations, NRHM officials, District medical officials and others took part in the launch of the fully equipped operation theatre, where three surgeries were done on the inaugural day.

CMO Dr Loli Mao in his welcome speech pointed out the shortage of grade IV staff especially nurses, as there are only 11 nurses against the required 29.The hospital is also in need of one radiologist, OT technician and one CSSD, he maintained saying that there is only one specialist in Anesthesia, 2 gynecologists and two diploma trained anesthetists.
Minister Francis while lauding the State and District officials in fulfilling the people's wishes for OT also narrated the intervention of CM O Ibobi, who after laying the foundation in 2006, pushed hard to bring the upgraded hospital to reality.
The Minister gave special reference to civil bodies where for the past two years now, cases of bandh, strikes and agitations decreased significantly, thereby leading to achieving development and better health services.
Conceding that instance of imposing bandh and blockade in the district has been minimal in this year which is a good sign, the Minister pointed out that solution on any matter should be brought by meaningful talk not by imposing bandh, strike and blockade.
Maintenance of peace and favorable environment in the district are much required to enable the hospital function effectively.
People should refrain from setting ablaze of public property including government department and hospital.
It is the duty of the people to protect their properties, the Minister said.
He remarked "Senapati is the Hospital of Manipur" especially due to its location along the state lifeline NH-2.He also appealed to the civil bodies to provide moral, physical and social protections to medical facilities and officials to enhance health services.
Director Dr.Okram Ibomcha, a Gynecologist himself displayed his exemplary leadership and profession by performing the first ever OT, an exercise to repose confidence of the patients and public.
Dr.Okram who had also performed first OT surgeries in Thoubal and Chandel Hospitals stated that 'in three years time, all efforts to upgrade the Senapati District Hospital as a Model Hospital and beautification will be completed'.
He also stated that shortage of staff and Doctors will be sorted out by this year end.
Process is on to resolve the water supply issue permanently, Trauma Center will be operational soon and Incinerator machine will be provided to the hospital, the director stated.
On queries of precautionary measures to tackle Ebola during the Sangai Festival, he said that, Automatic Walk through Thermometer Machine will be installed in strategic locations alone with Infra ray pistol system installed in Mao-gate, Jiribam and Moreh.
Speaking on the occasion, DC Jacintha Lazarus, IAS opined that, the long dream activation of OT was a big milestone towards upgrading the medical facilities to lessen people's burden.
