The Chief Minister today convened official meetings twice and discussed about establishment of a sports university at Yaithibi Loukon after acquiring 442.27 acres of land.
The Chief Minister convened a meeting with local MLAs Y Surchandra, P Brojen, Revenue and Sports Departments officials and deliberated on establishment of a National Sports University at Yaithibi Loukon.
The meeting was held in response to an intimation from the Centre about the State's position on the proposed sports university, informed an official source.
For the second time, the Chief Minister convened another meeting with Cabinet Ministers and relevant officials and discussed the same matter in the afternoon.
The meeting decided to acquire the requisite land in accordance with the New Land Acquisition Act after negotiating with land owners.
A team of State Government officials led by Chief Secretary PC Lawmkunga would convey the State Government's unambiguous position to the Union Sports Secretary on November 20 .
The team headed by the Chief Minister also includes YAS and Revenue Secretary K Radhakumar, Director N Ashokumar and Thoubal DC T Ranjit.
They would leave Imphal tomorrow.
Notably, the Sports Ministry has already recommended that Yaithibi Loukon is the most suitable site for the proposed sports university.
