Women cops sensitised on role of MSCW

Manipur State Commission for Women (MSCW) and Manipur Police Department jointly organised a state level workshop on the theme 'Sensitisation of state women police personnel on the role of Manipur State Commission for Women (MSCW)' at 1st MR banquet hall, here, on Friday.
Speaking at the programme, MSCW chairperson Ulka explained that the workshop was initiated to strengthen the relationship between the commission and police department.
In case of technical issues and lack of support from the police cases pursued by the commission would not be successful, she added.
Pointing out that the role of police is to maintain law and order and prevent crimes so as to allow people to live peacefully, the chairperson stated that MSCW acts as a watchdog for the womenfolk and take up cases in connection with crimes against women.
Bringing justice and solution to cases related with crimes against women is the duty of the commission.
However, there are instances when police fail to provide status report of cases or register FIR.
Cases taken up by the commission could be solved without delay if police pro vide the required materials sought by the commission, she maintained, while urging police to extend all possible help to the commission.
While stressing on the need for joint effort between the police and the commis sion in dealing with crimes against women, Ulka assured of delivering justice to such cases at the earliest if there is full co-operation from the side of the police.
The workshop was attended by MSCW members Thumlip Thningpham Mon-sang, Lourembam Dayabati ana T Chuongsin Koireng, and IGP (Trg) Mamata Wahengbam as presidium members while lormcr additional advocate general Momota Oinam and Manipur High Court advocate Thiyam Rajkishore spoke as resource persons.
