Discipline essential to excel in life: Education minister

Education minister Th Basanta Singh attended the closing ceremony of the first ever Churachandpur District Level Inter-School Sports cum literary Meet 2022 organised by KSO, Chura chandpur at Peace Ground, Tuibong here.
The three-day long sports cum literary meet concluded on Friday, with the education minister attending the closing event as chief guest.
DC Churachandpur Sarath Chandra Arroju, Henglep MLA Letzamang Haokip, Singhat MLA Chinlunthang and ZEO Churachandpur N Chingkhei Singh were also present as functional president and guests of honour respectively.
In his speech, minister Basanta Singh stressed the importance of discipline for school-going students to excel in life.
Lauding the KSO Chura chandpur for organising such curricular activities for the students, the education min ister urged the student body to remain focused on students' welfare related activities.
While reminding the stu dents that they are the foun dation of the nation, Basanta exhorted them to lead a dis ciplined life focusing on their studies while cautioning them that mobile addiction has physical, psychological and academic effects.
the minister also advised the students to learn soft skills or communication skills which are vital components of a team's success.
He then asked the students take a pledge to be a good human being by helping friends, elders and respect the state and the nation.
Henglep MLA Letzamang Haokip, while extending his appreciation to the KSO, appealed to the student body to continue such activities in the coming years.
Salt Brook School of Liazong Veng, Tuibong, Churachandpur was declared as the overall champion.
In literary competition.
Pathway School, Hill Top School and Mount Carmel School secured first, second and third positions respec tively.
Esther Lalumpui of Pathway School, Nemneineng of HM English School and Lydia Vahneineng of Salt Brook School were first, second and third respectively in essay writing competition on the topic Technology - a Boon or Bane?" .
In extempore speech, Diana Vahneihoi of Salt Brook School, Ginkhansuan of Ebenezer Academy and Lalh mangaihliana of Mount Carmel School were declared as first, second and third prize winners respectively.
In debate on the topic "Legalisation of Alcohol in Manipur , Nancy of Ebenezer Academy was adjudged as the best mover while Thang goumang of Salt Brook School was named as the second best mover.
Jamgoulal of Sunshine School and Esther of Salt Brook School were declared as the best and second best opposers.
In volleyball, Salt Brook School won both the men's and women's events while Elcism School and Greenwood Academy were the runners-up in the men's and women's volleyball compe tition.
Greenwood Academy, B Vengnom won the boys' football title while St Stephen School, D Phailen was the runners-up.
It may be noted that this was the first -ever district level inter-school sports cum literary meet organised in the district.
the KSO Churachandpur has informed that the event will be made an annual event from next year.
