'Festive Handloom Exhibition / Sale' held

The Convenor of Handloom Research & Promotion Cell, NLSC, Shreeda Chungkham has underscored the importance of sensitizing handloom weavers about the welfare schemes launched by the Government.
She was speaking at the 'Festive Handloom Exhibition cum Sale' held at Nambol L Sanoi College today on the theme 'Weaving the Future 2.0' .
The exhibition cum sale was jointly organised by Handloom Research & Promotion Cell, Nambol L Sanoi College and Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC), NLSC.
Speaking on the occasion, she said that in Manipur even men have joined the profession of handloom weaving in order to eke out a living.
However, many handloom weavers are unaware of the various beneficial schemes launched by the Government in their interest, thus causing them strain in keeping up with household expenses.
Stating that handloom exhibitions have been conducted at the College since 2019, she emphasized on the need to promote other skills aside from focusing solely on formal education.
Touching upon the widespread problem of youth unemployment, she asserted that such exhibitions encourage these youths with new ideas to make a livelihood.
Altogether 50 students participated in the exhibition cum sale and set up 30 stalls.
Notable among the various items on display include 'Ima Chinghi' produced by M/S Holistic Enterprises and many products of M/S MIDC Enterprises.
People from various walks of life attended the event and purchased the handloom items produced by the students of Nambol L Sanoi College.
