Bandh called to protest shortage of doctors, nurses

An "emergency joint leadership meeting" convened by VCLA has resolved to call a 60-hour total bandh along the NH 37 from 6 am of February 22.Announcing the total bandh, a VCLA statement on Monday said that the decision (bandh) was taken as per the declaration made all local-based CSOs during a public convention held on February 16 at Long mai Bazar Shed, demanding adequate doctors and staff at PHC, Noney and other health centres of the district within a period of 4 days (February 16 19) .
As the state government failed to honour the legitimate claim of the right to basic health care entitled to every dignified citizen of the state, the emergency joint leadership meeting subsequently resolved to enforce total bandh from February 22 and further intensify the agitation if the authority concerned continues to ignore the charter of demands duly presented, it added.
The statement also "strongly advised" all commercial vehicles, passengers, goods and enterprises, shops and vegetable vendors and those undertaking national projects undertaking in the jurisdiction of VCLA to cooperate with its total bandh call.
The meeting, however, exempted transportation of students for school and exam, medical establishment, patient, marriage, funeral, religious events, water supply, electricity department and media from the purview of the bandh.
