Imphal, February 20 2023:
Miffed with the State Government's failure to send adequate doctors and staff including Lab technicians at Noney Primary Health Centre, civil society organisations and the people of Noney have decided to impose a 60-hour total bandh on National Highway-37 from February 22 .
The bandh will take effect from 6 am of February 22 and continue till 6 pm of February 24 .
The bandh will be intensified if the Government and the authorities concerned continue to ignore the charter of demands they had presented earlier, said the bodies which include Villages Council Longmai Area (VCLA), RNCM Longmai Luangrian, Longmai Students' Union, Naga Women Association, Longmai Area and Inpui Naga Women's Union (INWU) .

It may be noted that the organisations had convened a public convention on February 16 at Longmai Bazar and it had taken several resolutions and also served an ultimatum to the Government to meet its demands within four days.
Besides demanding adequate number of doctors, nurses and staff including Lab technicians at Noney PHC and all other health centres in the district within four days, they had also urged the Government to construct a District Hospital at the earliest.
They had also urged the Government to make ambulance service operational and utilize all available infrastructure of the PHC.
They had warned that failure to station the required number of doctors and other staff at the PHC within 4 days would force the people and the CSOs to impose a total bandh along NH-37 indefinitely.
They had also cautioned that all ongoing National projects in the area like the railway construction work and NH expansion work may be banned.
Meanwhile, terming the Government's failure to send the required doctors and staff at the PHC as 'deliberate', they said the people of Noney have been deprived of their right to basic health care.
They emphasised that the PHC has only one doctor and very few staff who are, due to shortage of manpower, unable to run and manage 24x7 service and OPD service effectively.
Cautioning that the bandh may be intensified, the bodies sought the support and cooperation from the people within the jurisdiction of VCLA (Villages Council Longmai Area) .
The bandh, however, will not affect essential services including transportation of students for school and examination candidates, medical establishment and patients, marriage, funeral and other religious gatherings, water supply, Electricity Department, press and media services, they said.
