Imphal, February 25 2022:
Janata Dal-United (JD-U) national general secretary northeast in-charge Afaque.
Ahmed Khan has dubbed NEDA convener and Assam chief minister Himanta Biswa Sharma as "master of breaking parties".
In a statement, Afaque Khan wryly thanked Himanta Biswa for acknowledging that JD-U is a force in Manipur and said that Sarma was hand in glove with chief minister N Biren in breaking parties to muster majority in the past 5 years.
"Sarma has been a master in breaking parties not only in Manipur but elsewhere also in the North East.
His unquenching appetite for breaking parties is evident from his actions of not even sparing his allies...
Despite having 40 MLAs in the 60-member house in Arunachal Pradesh, he managed to wean away 6 of the 7 Janata Dal (United) MLAs.
No wonder he was gifted the chief minister's post," JD(U) said.
It then claimed that the people are seething with anger and a wave of anti-incumbency is sweeping through the valley and the hills of Manipur against the ruling party for compromising the constitutional institution, like the office of the speaker, adding that "The people are hell bent on teaching the ruling party a lesson by showing it its right place during this election".
JD(U) further said that the ruling party will not cross the single digit mark in the upcoming elections.
Citing incident of attacks on JD(U) offices at Khangabok, Kangpokpi and Jiribam, the party also said that with defeat imminent, the ruling party has started resorting to attacks on its opponents in the past few days.
It continued, "Sarma's statement of bringing peace and development in Manipur is in contradiction, when the fact is that the BJP government in the past 5 years has missed the opportunity to bring peace and development by not conducting ADC elections in Manipur." "Our party believes that bringing peace and development at gunpoint is cowardice," added the JD(U) release.
