Imphal, March 03 2022:
The High Court of Manipur has directed the Advocate General of Manipur to look into the regularisation of 14 contractual staff of two children homes, in concurrence with the state cabinet's notice to the finance department on January 7 after receiving approval from the Election Commission of India (ECI).
On January 8, the process was halted after the Model Code of Conduct took effect in the state.
On February 15, the High Court directed AG N Kumarjit to request ECI to continue the matter.
However, the office of the advocate general did not inform the authority concerned of the matter till February 19.According to a letter forwarded to the junior advocate attached to the office of the AG by the state deputy secretary (social welfare) on February 26, there was no mention of the date on which ECI gave its approval for regularisation of the 14 contractual staff.
The Court remarked that the state and the law officers should take the matter seriously as it concerns the observation home for Children in Conflict with the law and the interests of the general public.
Both the AG and the state counsel should respect the decorum of the court but the matter has shown otherwise.
Thus, the Court directed the AG to look whether ECI gave its approval on the slated day.
