Awareness Prog Substance Abuse and Alcoholism held

A one-day awareness programme on prevention of substance abuse and alcoholism for the parents was held at Wapokpi Village of Thoubal District on 13th January, 2014.The programme was attended by 35 women of the area.

Basanta Singh, District Project Officer, NYK Thoubal presided over the programme while K.Lokendro Singh, Member of DACYP was invited as Resource Person of the day.
In his keynote address, Ch.
Basanta Singh highlighted that the role of parents is very importance in education of their children towards preventing substance abuse and alcoholism.
In Manipur children are closer with their mothers than fathers.
They can act as role model for their children and should spend quality time with them.
For this, parents should not abuse drugs like eating pan, smoking cigarette, talab, all kinds of intoxicating drinks and other addictive substances.
Parents should monitor their children's behaviour like any change of peer groups, lack of moral disciplines, unusual eating patterns, frequently asking for money etc.
in such cases parents should make sure that their children is taking drugs.
Lokendro Singh also pointed out that the Meira Paibis can play a major role in combating substance abuse and alcoholism in the village.
He also warned that continued habit of taking tobacco products including Zarda Panwould be dangerous pregnancy both for the mother and child as it could help in developing womb Cancer.
