Bomb attack at MLA Loken's residence

Imphal, January 15 2014 :
At a time when security has been on high alert in view of the upcoming Republic Day celebration on January 26, unidentified armed persons triggered a bomb outside the residence of MLA of Nambol A/C Nameirakpam Loken at Sangaiprou, close to FCI godown, here today.
The blast took place at about 4.30 am.
The bomb exploded at the residential gate of the MLA.
Though no one was hurt in the blast, some portion of the gate was damaged in the attack.
Loken is also a former Social Welfare Minister.
His brother N.Dijen Singh confirmed the incident and said the reason behind it could be political rivalry.
The bomb was said to be country made as it was filled with ball splinters.

Police said the residence of the MLA is guarded by 14 Manipur Rifles personnel.
When the bomb attack took place, the security personnel were in their respective bunkers and could not see anyone planting the bomb at the gate early morning.
No group has claimed responsibility for the attack so far.
Loken has been a target by armed groups for at least seven times earlier.
The sixth attack was at his permanent residence at Nambol in Bishnupur district.
Meanwhile, in protest against the bomb attack, women folk of the locality staged dharna in front of the residential gate of MLA Loken today.
