Election contestant among four held with drugs

As a part of War on Drugs 2.0 campaign of the government, a team of Imphal West district commando led by inspector P Achouba arrested three drug peddlers along with 88,000 WY tablets on Monday.
The arrested drug peddlers have been identified as Longjam Ratan Singh (30) son of L Sharat Singh of Nongdam Awang Leikai, Kangabam Jadu Singh (52) son of K Dijamani Singh of Charangpat Mayai Leikai but presently residing at Wangkhei Yonglan Leirak and Majnu Miah (37) son of Soibar Rahman of Jordanga Part 2, Dhubri, Assam.
Speaking to media persons regard at his conference hall on Tuesday, SP Imphal West Ksh Shivakanta informed that the commando team on frisking and checking duty at Meitei Lamkhai on Monday and stopped a suspicious looking Hyundai i20 (MN01W4863) for checking around 5.30 pm.
On thorough checking of the vehi cle, suspected narcotic items wrapped in brown adhesive tape were found concealed inside a false chamber in the vehicle and it turned out to contain 88,00 WY tablets.
The driver Longjam Ratan was then arrested along with the tablets and the vehicle.
During interrogation, Longjam Ratan revealed that the seizeaWY tablets belong to one Kangabam Jadu Singh, who had contested the last assembly election from Wangkhem assembly constituency on JD-U ticket.
In the follow up action, the security team arrested Jadu and his accomplice Majnu Miah from near Saparmeina PS, Kangpokpi district and recovered one Tata Hexa (MN01AG3147) white in colour in which they were travelling towards Dimapur.
Preliminary investigation revealed that the arrested drug peddlers are part of an inter-state drug syndicate, the SP confided.
The arrested drug peddlers and the seized items have been handed over to Singjamei PS, where an FIR has been taken up, the SP said and also appealed to the public to share any information about drug related matters to the nearest police station or to the control room of SP/IW through mobile no 6009030422.Meanwhile, Kakching commando unit arrested a person along with 692 grams of heroin at Nungourok village, Kakching on Tuesday at around 11.35 am.
The arrested person has been identified as Boipu Haokip (31) son of Mangneo Haokip of Molnoi village, Tengnoupal district.
According to police report, Kakching commando unit conducted frisking and checking at Nungourok village upon receiving reliable information.
During the checking, the commando unit stopped one Gypsy (white in colour) without registration number which was coming from Pallel and heading towards Kakching side.
The said vehicle didn't halt at Laimanai Chingjin CDO check post and sped off.
The commando team managed to stop the Gypsy at Nungourok village but the driver tried to flee only to be overpowered after a hot pursuit.
Further the occupant of the vehicle was arrested along with heroin.
