Online discourse on domestic violence conducted

District Legal Services Authority (DLSA), Tamenglong organised an online capacity building programme on "The Protection of Women from Domestic Violence Act, 2005" for panel lawyers and para-legal volunteers (PLVs) of Tamenglong and Noney districts on Tuesday.
The programme organised under the aegis of National Legal Services Authority and sponsorship of Manipur State Legal Services Authority was attended by Tamenglong District & Sessions Judge and DLSA chairman N Rajnikanta Singh, DLSA secretary Dr Laishram Rina Devi, Royal Academy of Law, Oinam assistant professor Chongtham Shaibhalini Devi, panel lawyers and PLVs of the two districts.
Delivering the keynote address, N Rajnikanta said that Protection of Women from Domestic Violence Act, 2005 has been enacted for the protection of rights of women who are victims of violence such as physical, sexual, verbal, emotional and economic abuses.
As one of the resource persons, Chongtham Shaibhalini deliberated on the varied aspects of domestic violence and also emphasised on the importance of promptly reporting incidents of domestic violence and having shelter homes for the victim parties.
She further elaborated the role of police, protection officers, service providers, etc., in the implementation of the Act in its true letter and spirit.
