Farmers training programme on rejuvenation of farm economy held

United Committee Manipur (UCM) in association with the Agriculture Department organised a one day farmers' training programme on 'Rejuvenation of Farm Economy and Distribution of Ravi Crops' today at Nungbrang Awang Leikai Community Hall.
According to a statement issued by UCM, the programme was organised in continuation of UCM's ongoing effort to achieve self-reliance in food production.
The programme was attended by Khumanthem Thasana Leima, Pradhan, Tumukhong Moiranpurel GP as the chief guest; Joychandra K, president UCM as the functional president and social worker Rajmani Meetei as well as Khumanthem Ibomcha Meetei, Ward Member, Tumukhong Moirangpurel GP as the guests of honour.
Meanwhile Thangjam Ramakanta attended as the resource person of the programme.
Speaking on the occasion, UCM general secretary stated that Manipur used to be self-reliant in the past.
He opined that it is time to promote the farming techniques used by ancestors, preserve the fertility of the soil and increase the yield of crops.
He added that it is high time for the State Government to swap organic fertilizers in place of chemical fertilizers and emphasized on the need to set up more food processing units.
Addressing the gathering, Joychandra K touched upon the lack of knowledge among the youth regarding the indigenous culture and tradition of the State.
During the programme, UCM also distributed 50 bags of urea and Ravi crops to farmers.
