Govt keen to make state drone technology hub: Chief secretary

Chief secretary Dr Rajesh Kumar has said that the government has plan to establish one drone making training institute in every district along with informing that the building of the state's first IT Special Economic Zone would be completed by December this year.
Disclosing this while speaking during the inaugural function of a three-day drone awareness programme held at Indian Institute of Information Technology (HIT), Mantripukhri on Tuesday, Dr Rajesh Kumar said that drones have taken important role nowadays ranging from security to application of chemicals to destroy poppy plantation as well as fertilizer and insecticides at paddy fields.
The state government has started giving special attention in this regard and HIT should also commence certificate course in drone making, he said, adding that there is possibility of convertihg'Mani pur into a drone technology hub.
This technology will not only generate jobs for unemployed youth but also enhance the GDP growth, he added.
Regarding the training programme, HIT Manipur director professor Krishnan Baskaran explained that drone technology's usage is expanding nowadays and there are more than 220 drone manufacturing companies in India which is expected to become global leader in drone making sector by 2030 .
The training programme is being organised with the main objective of making North East particularly Manipur a drone technology hub, he said, adding that the state government is communicating with popular drone manufacturing companies of India to develop this sector in the state.
Students, officials of different departments and security agencies will be imparted drone making and awareness during the training programme.
