Imphal, August 30 2022:
Birmingham Commonwealth Games Judo silver medallist, Likmabam Sushila observed that it was her humble background that ignited her spirit to work harder and create a niche of her own.
She made the statement while interacting with the students of St George High School, Wangkhei on the occasion of National Sports Day yesterday.
Talking to the students, the Birmingham event silver medallist shared her struggles and experiences which can relate with the struggles students had to face in order to achieve success in their life.

Quoting that hard work always pays off, Sushila urged all the students to set objectives and put in diligent efforts to achieve it.
If one is committed and determined, success is assured, she added.
Maintaining that she started her journey of an athlete from a humble background, Sushila said that she might not have achieved the current position if she was born into a well to do family.
It was poverty that pushed her to the limit and forced her to stay focused, overcome all pains and challenges to become a notable Judoka, said Sushila who also represented India at the Tokyo Olympics 2021 last year.
To become an Olympian is not an easy feat and there have been many stages when she felt like giving up, she contended.
Sushila also suggested students to acknowledge the unwavering guidance and support they are receiving from their teachers, guardians and well-wishers and do their best in return for the good of the society.
Strongly urging students to stick to healthy foods and to abstain from any kind of intoxicants, she also advised them to indulge in virtuous and healthy activities.
A friendly basketball match between teams led by Sister Brinda, Principal of St George High School and Judoka Sushila marked the occasion.
Assistant Director of SAI, Takyel, Laijing Marcus Maring, Judo coach Chingkheinganbi and Archdiocese of Imphal's Reverend Vialo Francis and others also attended the National Sports Day celebration cum interaction programme.
