Ukhrul, August 30 2022:
The Hunphun/Ukhrul Village Authority has strongly opposed the deviation of the proposed bypass road construction from its original approved plan ie Ukhrul-Tolloi-Tadubi road under NH-102A and has called for immediate actions to revert the decision.
According to the Hunphun/Ukhrul village headman HA Sarimaya, the village Authority after intensive deliberation unanimously decided to stick to the original plan for highway expansion that pass through the middle of the Ukhrul town as per the surveyed conducted by NHIDCL and prepared DPR.
The VA's resolution also apprised the Deputy Commionser's office regarding the deviation and also informed the DC that the villages favour and support the road expansion for making double lane from Dungrei Jn-Kharasom Jn passing through the centre of Ukhrul town as a part of NHIDCL's project.
It further mentioned that the original alignment for highway expansion touches all localities of Ukhrul town and was supposed to be beneficial to all the residents of the town.
Ukhrul headquarters has almost 80 thousand population with numerous vehicular population, two lane highway expansion will ease traffic congestion considerably and ensure road safety to public.
It further question DC Ukhrul regarding his interest to reduce the existing main Ukrhul town highway under the Inter Village Road (IVR).
Such regressive action will not be compromise stated headman of Hunphun/Ukhrul village.
It is unheard that National highways are shifted in any parts in the guise of bypass road construction.
"Bypass" by name itself is not the original highway but bypass from town/city limits so as to ensure the citizens living in the particular areas are being saved from transportation inconveniences.
Village Secretary W Muirangwo stated that Hunphun/Ukhrul will not accept deviation of highway from the original alignment as per approved DPR in any circumstances, further urged the DC, Ukhrul to instruct NHIDCL officials to initiate and start the construction of NH-102A double laning by expanding the existing road from Dungrei junction to Kharasom junction that passes throughout Ukhrul town in the greater interest of the general public.
