Convict vanishes from Court premises

A murder convict escaped from the premises of the Session Court, Bishnupur today.
Reportedly, Khwairak-pam Sanatomba alias Sana- matum (50) of Ngaikhong Kullen Mayai Leikai fled from the Court before he was convicted by an order of the Session Court for 'murdering' his own wife on May 8, 2012 at Ngaikhong Khullen.
According to sources, convict Khwairakpam Sanatomba who was on bail appeared before the Court today.
A massive search is on to nab the convict in suspected areas and the same Court had also issued a warrant of arrest against the convict.
The case was on against Khwairakpam Sanatomba after a complaint was lodged against him by his brother-in-law.
As per the complainant, his sister was assaulted by the convict with a deadly weapon at Ngaikhong Khullen Auto Parking at Bishnupur Bazar on May 8, 2012 .
Saying that her sister succumbed to injuries while the convict was arrested on the same day (May 8) at around 6.40 pm, the complainant claimed that a bloodstained dagger was recovered from the convict.
The IO of the case submitted a charge sheet against the convict on August 5, 2013 before the Court of Additional Session Judge, Fast Track Court and charges were framed against the convict under Section 302 IPC.
During the trial, 14 prosecution witnesses were pro- duced to prove the charges.
The convict was examined by the Court after recording statements of the prosecution witnesses.
The Court, after hearing the APP of the State and the defence counsel convicted Khwairakpam Sanatomba under Section 302 IPC and fixed September 3 for sentence hearing.
The Court order also mentioned that the convict, as reported by a Bench of the Court, was present before the Court at the early hour along with his defense counsel.
The defence counsel submitted that he couldn't establish any contact with his client (the convict) as the latter's phone was off.
The defence counsel prayed for passing an appropriate order.
The Court observed that the convict is not co-operating with the Court and cancelled the bail and surety bond of the convict in the presence of his counsel.
