IW crowned champions of 2nd State Games

Imphal West were crowned overall team champions of the 2nd Manipur Olympic Games 2022 as the five-day gala state sports competition drew to a close on Tuesday.
The Imphal West contingent finished with the most gold medals won across 10 disciplines.
They ended their triumphant campaign with 103 gold, 96 silver and 70 bronze medals to emerge as the team champions.
The West side dominated taekwondo, table tennis, ka-baddi, handball, golf, judo, boxing, cycling, fencing and kang over the course of the Games.
Of the 10 disciplines, their remarkable achievement in terms of the most medals won overall and most gold medals was in cycling where they made a clean sweep of all five gold medals on offer in the track cycling competition, with Konthoujam Runabas grabbing two gold medals (men's 4km individual pursuit & 7km scratch race), and Naorem Biseshori (women's 3km pursuit), Thangsabam Chinglensana (men's 1km sprint) and Yumnam Thaja (women's 1km sprint) also winning one gold medal each.
In addition, the IW team bagged four silver and five bronze medals in the track cycling event.
The West also were winners of the women's football event.
They outscored the East 2-1 in their summit clash.
Imphal East, who finished with the most medals, just fell short of four gold medals to settle for the second place in the Games.
The East contingent collected 99 gold medals courtesy of their stellar performances in archery, wrestling, hockey, gymnastics, swimming, basketball, polo and netball.
Besides, Imphal East won the men's football tournament.
They beat Churachandpur 3-1 in a penalty shootout for their gold medal.
Imphal East's medal haul also included 84 silver and 89 bronze, taking home 272 medals in total.
Bishnupur claimed the third place with 65 gold, 31 silver and 40 bronze medals.
They made their mark in canoeing, weightlifting, wushu and rowing competitions.
Thoubal finished fourth in the medal tally.
They bagged 18 gold, 43 silver and 45 bronze medals in the Games.
In team events, Thoubal won gold medals in mukna and khokho.
Kakching were fifth with 15 gold, 31 silver and 35 bronze medals.
Senapati bagged five gold, four silver and seven bronze medals to finish sixth; Ukhrul took seventh place with One gold, three silver and 15 bronze; Churachandpur managed to claim eighth position with four silver and four bronze; Chandel finished ninth with one silver and nine bronze; and Tamenglong completed the top 10 with one silver and four bronze medals.
