Imphal, April 16 2022:
Several organisations have strongly denounced the statement of Union Home Minister Amit Shah about making Hindi a compulsory subject till Class X in North East states.
In a release, Umanglai Sinpang Sintha Maheiroi Lup general secretary Haobijam Bidyananda said that union home minister's statement of making Hindi compulsory subject in North East states is a strategy to dilute Manipuri culture.
Such move will never be accepted, he asserted while pointing out that language is not only a medium of communication as there are several components of culture, tradition and discipline of the community in it.
If Hindi subject is made mandatory, then it should be changed into official subject.
The move of imposing Hindi as a compulsory subject in the North East though it could not be done in other parts of the country should be looked into critically.
Bidyananda questioned why the state government is not taking a stand in this regard even though Nagaland government had already declared its decision.
"Will they wait for instructions from the central government," he posed, while opining that it would be a right step of the state government to take decision before any instruction from the central government.
Similarly, United People' Front secretary publicity Ayekpam Loya condemned the statement of Amit Shah and denounced it as a move to destroy the culture and traditions of small North East states.
People want the remaining MPs and MLAs to take a firm decision like outer MP Dr Lorho Pfoze did so as to allay their apprehension, he maintained.
Urging the people to be ready for a joint movement and protest against the imposition of Hindi language, Loya assured that UPF, Manipur will fully sup port and take part in any movement of the people against such imposition.
