Saying that the institute will only charge Rs 100 as OPD fee for diagnosis of illness and won't take any registration fee, Dr Palin maintained that the rate was fixed in the larger interest of the people. "Charging just Rs 100 for OPD service is quite low as compared to other private hospitals," he added.
Dr Palin further stated that the institute will give certain benefits to PMJAY and CMHT card holders to ease the burden of the low income earners.
He, on the other hand, stated that SAHS has a seat capacity of 150 students and class has already begun from February.
Continuing that the National Medical Commission has authorised any private hospital which has completed 2 years of service and owns at least 250 beds to set up a medical college, Dr Palin maintained that Shija Hospital got the permission to set up a medical college very fast as the hospital has all the amenities required.
He said that the private hospital in metro cities must have at least 300 beds to set up a private medical college.
Maintaining that the State Government also extended support in setting up SAHS while Manipur University provided consent of affiliation to the first home-grown private medical college in North East India, Dr Palin contended that SAHS has all the requisite staff and equipment for effective functioning.
Dr Palin also stated that SAHS will give a 5 per cent discount to any outpatients who buy medicines from SHIJA's pharmacy.
Saying that Manipur has great potential for medical tourism in South East Asia, Dr Palin stated that authorities in Shija Hospital are considering increasing the seat capacity at SAHS in the interest of students from Myanmar by consulting with the Ministry of External Affairs.
