Dr Ranjan opens 2nd National Mime Fest

Union Minister of State for External Affairs & Education Dr RK Ranjan inaugurated the 2nd National Mime Festival today at Kanglei Mime Theatre Repertory Complex, Langthabal Kunja, Imphal today.
The festival was organized by Kanglei Mime Theatre Repertory (KMRT), Imphal, under the sponsorship of North Eastern Council, Shillong, Ministry of DoNER and will continue till April 19 .
Speaking as chief guest, Dr RK Ranjan applauded the efforts of the theatre director in bringing the art form into the State.
He stated that Mime plays a big role in educating the people in other parts of the country in knowing the culture and tradition of a people through voiceless expressions/gestures.

The Minister said that there is a lot of potential among the people of the State and the talented individuals need to be groomed like that in sports.
Mime can be popularized in schools and education systems as extra-curricular activities, he stated.
He expressed the need to appreciate and encourage KMRT which has earned a place in this particular art form.
The Minister also gave assurance in co-ordinating with embassies of different countries through Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR) to popularize the mime of the State at the international and National level.
Speaking as the president of the inaugural function, Leishemba Sanajaoba, MP, Rajya Sabha, stated that the art form can play a big role in National integration through its performance regardless of language barrier.
Mime artistes from Manipur, Mizoram, Assam, West Bengal, Bihar and Rajasthan will be participating in the workshops and performances of the festival.
Dr Ganga Prasad Prasain, Vice Chancellor of Tripura University, delegates from Japan, scholars and theatre artistes also attended the inaugural function.
The event was marked by a presentation of Mime Play Illusion, Love, Feelings, Dentist by Suvendhu and Subrata Das from Kolkata.
