Chinlunthang takes maiden tour of remote Tonglon area

After nearly two decades, Chinlunthang became the first 60-Singhat AC MLA to set foot in the remote Tonglong area of Churachandpur district on Thursday.
It may be mentioned that in the annals of Singhat AC, Tonglon area (comprising 15 villages) was visited only twice before by ex-Minister (Late) Thangkhanlal, father of the present MLA.
As requested by village chiefs of the area, Chinlunthang inspected the ongoing 8-km long PMGSY-road construction and reportedly found low-grade materials being stored for use in the construction work.
He informed the contractors and officials concerned of the Department to immediately discard the sub-standard materials and use good quality ones.
The MLA was accompanied by Kamlianthang, SO of PMGSY Office, Imphal.

The village road construction project was initiated under PMGSY Order 2018-2020 and began in 2021.It was subdivided under two packages- first package runs from Singhat to Chahnou (10.180km), covering four villages such as Munpi, Simbuk, Buhsau and S Mollen; and the second package Chahnou-Tonglon(T), 6.96 km, comprising of another four villages including Hiangmual.
The MLA also inspected the construction of a bailey bridge over Tuila stream.
It may be noted that construction of the bridge began in 2019, under PMGSY, and was slated to complete in 2021 .
During the visit, Chinlungthang recalled that Tonglon area was well-known for successful orange cultivation in the past.
He shared views with the area chiefs to revive orange cultivation as a feasible means of livelihood.
The MLA also urged the people to work sincerely on every development projects of the Government and to cooperate with him in his effort to chalk out sustainable means of livelihood in the area.
At Tonglon (P), Chinlunthang was received by Suanchinpau, an Ex-MDC, along with the area chiefs who apprised the MLA of various issues faced by the villagers ranging from electricity to water and road connectivity.
At Hiangmual, the village chief Kapkhanthang reported that the only water tank provided in his village was made of sub-standard materials and was leaking water while adding that some of the connecting pipes have also been damaged.
Chinlunthang's maiden visit to Tonglon area of Singhat AC was greeted by the presence of all the village chiefs and personalities such as Ngulkholun, chief of Chahnou, David Lianzaw, chief of Buhsau, Letkhojang, chief of S Mollen, Thangkhanmung, chief of Tonglon(T), G Suanchinpau, chief of Tonglon(P), and Kapkhanthang, chief of Hiangmual among others.
