Dy CM advises farmers to yield multiple crops in a year

Deputy Chief Minister Gaikhangam has advised the farmers in the State to adopt modern scientific methods to yield multiple crops in a year instead of the traditional single cropping method.
He was speaking as Chief Guest of the inaugural function of a four-day Krishi Mela (farmers' fair) organized by Agricultural Technology Management Agency under State Agriculture Department at Iboyaima Shumang Leela Shanglen, Palace Compound here today.
Gaikhangam further said that the farmers have vital roles in the society No person in the world would be able to live without food.
The farmers should adopt modern scientific methods to enhance agricultural productivity and boost the State's economy.
The youths should not go only after government jobs.
They should also indulge in agriculture and other entrepreneurial activities to earn their living.
The involvement of more educated youths in agriculture and allied sectors has been beneficial in raising the State's economy.
Significantly, the State was also awarded the "Krishi Kamal" carrying a cash reward of Rs.2 crore by the Central Government for excellence in agriculture.
The same award would also be conferred to the State again this year, the Deputy CM noted.
Attending as the functional President, Agriculture Minister Md Abdul Nasir appealed to the farmers to enhance agricultural productivity and raise the economy of the State.
The inaugural function was also attended by Director of Veterinary Department Dr Saidokhum Joute, Director of Fisheries Department K Saratkumar, Director of CAU's Extension Education Dr M Premjit, Joint Director of ICAR, Lamphelpat Dr N Prakash and Joint Director of Horticulture and Soil Conservation AS Ningomi.
