Reacting to the news report on the death of a lad from Oinam Sawombung after an operation yesterday, Managing Director of Public Hospital Azad Khan has clarified that there was no medical negligence on the part of the doctors including Dr Kala of RIMS who had performed the operation to treat the deceased Lovingson's varicose vein (a vein that is permanently dilated, most common in the legs) .
Talking to media persons at Public Hospital, Hatta here today, Managing Director Azad Khan said that Oinam Lovingson (19) of Oinam Sawombung was first examined by Dr Kala at RIMS OPD on January 10 .
He needed a surgery in order to treat his varicose vein.
However, the operation could not be performed at RIMS due to renovation works of the operation theatre.
The family members insisted the doctors on performing the surgery urgently as the deceased was to appear a recruitment rally for SSB next month.
The operation was performed successfully and everything went fine until the deceased Lovingson began to complain of stomachache and problems in urination just before he was to be discharged from the hospital.
However, he was shifted to Raj Polyclinic and died there yesterday.
There was no question of medical negligence and the deceased had not disclosed anything about his kidney problems and low blood pressure when the doctors asked him about his health condition before the operation, he noted.
Azad Khan further maintained that the doctors always want to save their patients' lives and not kill them.
The death of Lovingson was very unfortunate and vandalizing of hospital properties after someone's death should be avoided by all in the future, the Managing Director added.
